  2024-10-18

In summary, the role of 5-HT and different types of 5-HTRs in gating plasticity induction in neocortical circuits remains unclear, with variable and seemingly contradictory effects reported for LTP induction in cortical sensory fields (e.g., V1, enhanced LTP: Inaba et al., 2009, Kojic et al., 1997,

Autophagy and cell death pathways in ischemic stroke Although very important for the effects on post-ischemic nox4 injury, autophagy is not the only mechanism of action involved in cell death. Necrosis and apoptosis are two other distinct forms of cell death with great difference in morphology an

Although we have achieved a great deal of success in the development of tools to understand autophagy in health and disease, highly specific reagents for autophagy manipulation and deep knowledge of autophagy is required to advance the research in therapeutic treatment. 2024-10-17

Production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during RSV infection is one the important ways that neutrophils can injure the lungs [2], [24], [25]. Lipoxygenases are considered as an important source of producing ROS inside the Benzoquinonium dibromide [26]. Several studies have indicated that the 12

  2024-10-17

A disruption of lung barrier function caused by PM2.5 has been observed in our experiments; however the underlying mechanism has not been investigated. Zhao et al. (2018) reported that PM2.5 down-regulated the expression levels of tight junction (TJ) proteins and resulted in nasal epithelial barrie

  2024-10-17

The presence of crown-like structures and inflammatory factors in the breast of obese patients is associated with considerable changes in intracellular signaling and a profound cellular dysfunction. Secreted pro-inflammatory factors can directly promote breast carcinogenesis as they have been report

Secreted enzymes Only two secreted S. aureus enzymes reportedly induce apoptosis, namely, staphylococcal staphopain B (SspB) and coagulase. SspB selectively cleaved CD11b/CD18 integrin and induced an apoptosis-like cell death in neutrophils and monocytes (Smagur et al., 2009). Neutrophils or mono

Furthermore, because most of foods and beverages have been consumed after processing, researchers have focused on the effects of processing (e.g. blanching, cooking, drying, cooling, freezing, high-pressure treatment, pulsed electric field) on total antioxidant capacity of foods. In general, there w

Recent studies revealed that certain plant-derived compounds can also interfere with AR function. One way of such an interference is by modulating its expression levels. This is the case for the two flavonoids quercetin and luteolin that have been reported to repress the function of AR by inhibiting

  2024-10-17

What is the mechanism by which Wnt7a-Fz7 signaling enhances AMPAR localization and synaptic strength? Following induction of LTP, the number of AMPARs rapidly increases at extrasynaptic sites (Makino and Malinow, 2009, Yang et al., 2008a) through PKA-dependent phosphorylation of GluA1 at S845 (He et

In this study, we designed and synthesized two ALK PROTACs (degraders), 5 (MS4077) and 6 (MS4078), by linking ceritinib and pomalidomide [45] through two different linkers. Using human ALCL and NSCLC cells, we characterized both compounds in a battery of assays to demonstrate their effects on reduci

The activation of P1Rs modulates the activity of many ion channels and receptors (Sebastião and Ribeiro, 2009) and the recent detection of P1Rs at the postsynaptic level of the adult NMJ (Garcia et al., 2014) makes potentially possible an adenosine-mediated modulation of the nicotinic NMS-1286937 sa
