Introduction Humans have consumed mushrooms for centuries because of their high nutrient content and low lipid content, as well as their excellent flavor and texture [1]. Edible mushrooms possess notable medicinal properties and bioactivities, including antitumor, antiviral, antidiabetic, and ant

Plant defensins (Vriens et al., 2014) and linear AMPs (Domingues et al., 2015, Liu et al., 2008) have been shown to present several modes of action. Among these different mechanisms, permeabilization of the fungal membrane has been described as a secondary effect of plant defensin action (Vriens et

HIF-α Blockade in AA Therapy In lieu of the evidence supporting a central role for HIF-α signaling in tumor angiogenesis and CC pathobiology, significant efforts have focused on the discovery of small-molecule HIF-α inhibitors (for exhaustive compendia, see [28,44,45]). In brief, inhibitors vary

Therefore, VEGF and its receptors are expressed in different organs, including the kidneys, the liver and the sesamin [55]. In the human placenta, VEGF is mainly synthesized by cytotrophoblast and Hofbauer cells early in the first trimester, whereas Flk-1 and Flt-1 receptors are expressed throughou

The incremental reduction, albeit not statistically significant, in collagen I with LCZ696 compared to perindopril treated animals, may therefore be related to a more compliant ventricle in LCZ696-treated animals. This is not so surprising given the incremental anti-fibrotic effect of the active met

Evidence from basic science studies suggests that Cd may play a role in prostate cancer through disruption of the androgen receptor (AR). AR, a hormone-activated transcription factor, is the key driver of prostate cancer progression [6]. Ironically, the AR is also required for normal prostate growth

  2024-05-20

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a key cellular energy sensor that maintains energy homeostasis at the cellular and whole-organism level (Hardie et al., 2012). Functionally, the AMPK pathway sustains adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production through activation of fatty Baicalin oxidation and au

The subdivision of 5-HT receptors started in the 1950s by Gaddum and colleagues, when they realised that in the guinea pig ileum, the effects of 5-HT could be blocked in part by morphine (M), and in part by dibenzyline (D). Gaddum and Picarelli proposed two receptor classes, 5-HT M and 5-HT D (1957)

Extracellular ATP and downstream purinergic signaling have also been proposed to contribute to dental pulp tissue healing and dentin regeneration. Mechanical and thermal stimulation of external dentin can induce ATP release in dental pulp through pannexins [13]. Cold stimulation was also reported to

5- and 12/15-LO are members of the lipoxygenase family that convert arachidonic (-)-epicatechin into lipid mediators such as leukotriene B4 (LTB) and 12()-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (HETE) and 15()-HETE, respectively. Evidence from several in vitro and in vivo studies has shown that activation of

GABAB receptor is associated with alverine and behavioral diseases, including epilepsy, spasticity, anxiety and neuropathic pain (Bettler et al., 2004, Bowery et al., 2002, Froestl, 2010). Baclofen, a clinical drug and selective GABAB receptor agonist, is used to treat muscle spasticity in patients
