  2023-02-08

In the present study we sought to decipher the role of ATP-citrate lyase and of the mitochondrial NADH-dependent Mae in the oleaginous yeast Y. lipolytica. Indeed, although this yeast is one of the major models for lipid metabolism, the function of these enzymes is still not clear. As the study of t

  2023-02-08

The 15-LOX hydroxide metabolites are converted to secondary lipid mediators such as lipoxin A4 from 15-HETE and protectin D1/resolvin D1 from 17-HDoHE [45] (Fig. S3). Importantly, all of these secondary lipid mediators have anti-inflammatory and pro-resolving properties [46], [47], [48]. Lipoxin A4

  2023-02-08

Two parallel branches of the DNA damage-dependent S-phase checkpoint are thought to co-operate by inhibiting distinct steps of DNA replication. One branch includes the phosphorylation of structural maintenance of chromosomes 1 (SMC1), a cohesin that is activated by ATM or ATR after IR treatment or r

Thirdly and finally, multiple studies have analyzed the activation of neurons in the auditory telencephalic areas of songbirds in response to various auditory stimuli. Neuronal activation was identified by the increased expression of immediate early genes such as fos or ZENK (also know as zif-268, e

ASK1 in Huntington's disease and other polyglutamine diseases The polyglutamine (polyQ) diseases are a group of inherited neurodegenerative disorders caused by the expansion of cytosine-adenine-guanine (CAG) trinucleotide repeats in the coding regions of specific genes, leading to the production

  2023-02-08

Thiazole heterocycles constitute an interesting class of molecules, which exhibit a broad spectrum of biological activity, including antifungal properties [[16], [17], [18], [19]]. Encouraged by our previous study that describes the activity of hydrazine-thiazole derivatives against C. gattii and C.

  2023-02-08

Since 2005, at least 14 prospective cohort studies have been conducted to clarify inconsistencies in the field, ten of which suggested a direct correlation between antibiotic use and atopy or wheezing later in life [51–60], three found no association [61–63], and one found positive association only

  2023-02-08

In human epidermoid carcinoma A431 cells, 12-lipoxygenase was significantly increased in glutathione-depleted cells. The relative abundance of phospholipid hydroperoxide versus glutathione peroxidase seems to play an important role in controlling the lipoxygenase reaction [57]. It has been proposed

  2023-02-08

Concluding remarks Enhanced membrane binding upon calcium stimulation in 69 2 suggests a pre-requisite step that involves a conformational change in LOX. This might facilitate it to tether to the membrane and regulate enzyme activity. The calcium binding loops and the putative active site entranc

  2023-02-08

AAT enzyme activity was readily detected in crude cell-free extracts obtained from berry tissues of all accessions but displayed different substrate selectivities (Fig. 2). Cell-free extracts derived from ‘Muscat Hamburg’ berries showed the highest AAT activity with all alcoholic substrates tested,

  2023-02-07

In patients with spina bifida and spinal cord injury, fecal incontinence is a serious issue that can impair activities of daily living and patient self-esteem. To address this Malone et al. first described the Antegrade Continence Enema (ACE) procedure in 1990 [1], which achieves continence by all

Acknowledgments Introduction Hypospadias is a common congenital malformation in males, in which the urethral orifice is found on the ventral side of the penis as a result of incomplete fusion of urethral folds. The mean prevalence in per 10,000 live births from 1910 to 2013 were: Europe 19.9,

  2023-02-07

Matrix metalloprotease inhibitors are increasingly available and tested for other indications in clinical trials. The present study suggests that either ADAM10 or TACE inhibition alone will not maximally restore leukocyte Axl function. We found that lower doses of ADAM10/TACE inhibitors exhibit simi
